Highlights include critically acclaimed Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner Frozen River (AFI top ten films of ’08, New York Film Critics Circle Awards Best Film), “gorgeous and heartbreaking” (New York Magazine) Wendy and Lucy, UK premiere of Bosnian Snow (Cannes Critics Prize winner), Argentinian masterpiece La Rabia, uber-cool German surrealism in The Heart is a Dark Forest, and UK premiere of delightful French feature Grown Ups.

Dazzling Docs

Documentaries include the “undeniably entertaining” (Variety) break-out hit American Teen from Oscar® nominated Nanette Burstein, and The Art Star and The Sudanese Twins following internationally renowned conceptual artist Vanessa Beecroft. Plus Special Preview of Franny Armstrong (McLibel)’s latest campaign flick The Age of Stupid, and a gorgeous portrait of the active elderly in The Time of Their Lives. We will also be joined by women filmmakers from Afghanistan, India, Kenya and Nigeria as we showcase striking new work from developing countries.

World Class Shorts

A stunning programme from the hottest world talent including Sundance favourite August 15th (Jiang Xuan), and new work from BEV’s UK alumni Hattie Dalton, Harry Wootliff and Amanda Boyle.

Screen Seductresses – Vamps, Vixens & Femmes Fatales

Sexy, iconic and controversial, Birds Eye View film festival presents the largest ever season of femmes fatales at the BFI Southbank in March, PLUS six fabulous silent vamp films with live musical accompaniment from cutting-edge female artists. Wonder at the devilishly sexy Louise Brooks in Pandora’s Box, Greta Garbo in The Temptress, and Alla Nazimova in Salome, whilst listening to specially commissioned live scores from fabulous singer, multi-instrumentalist and DJ, South Bank Show Award nominee Bishi, Broken Hearts DJs, Classical Brit Award winner Natalie Clein, The Monroe Transfer and innovative violinist Alison Blunt.

Innovation Technology, Fashion Films, Music Videos

A chance to learn from the ladies on the cusp of new creations: a sneak preview of Katie Ellwood’s groundbreaking motion capture project with the English National Ballet; a Mediascape journey through London; fashion films from the likes of Sarah Chatfield (YSL), Toyin (Replay) and Jamie Isaia (Swarovski); and music videos from Kinga Burza (Katy Perry, Kate Nash) and Ali Taylor (Emiliana Torrini, Shitdisco) hosted by our favourite journobroadcaster Miranda Sawyer.

OPENING NIGHT GALA with a selection of mindblowing UK & international shorts, including Sam Taylor-Wood’s amazing Love You More, plus a taste of the Vampish delights to come accompanied by the Elysian Quartet. MARY HARRON RETROSPECTIVE & MASTERCLASS – BEV welcomes a truly world-class talent – surprising, controversial and just darned brilliant, this is the woman who brought us American Psycho, I Shot Andy Warhol and The Notorious Bettie Page. Come, be inspired, and learn how it’s really done. International Women’s Day double bill plus in-depth masterclass at the ICA. Unmissable.

BIRDS EYE REVIEW: SEX ON SCREEN DEBATE & EROTIC SHORTS Join the likes of Sam Roddick, Carine Adler (Under the Skin), and Mike Figgis in debating the Birds Eye View of Sex on Screen, plus a screening of high-class erotic shorts with Coco de Mer.

LAST LAUGH: BEV COMEDY NIGHT – A fun-packed evening of funny films, sketches, games and stand-up.

CLOSING NIGHT PARTY – The sexiest Birds Eye View film festival yet aptly closes with a vamped-up Awards Party on Friday 13th. Join us in your best femme fatale gear for a night of devilish delights: vixens, VJs and vodka plus some serious dancefloor action led by DJ Goldierocks.

Workshops & Masterclasses

With Skillset support, BEV has teamed up with some of the UK’s most prestigious film training organisations to deliver another stellar line-up of workshops including a tailored Short Sighted from BAFTA and Shooting People, screenplay analysis with The Script Factory, shooting on HD with VET and top tips from NFTS.
