3 actions for better lap dancing licensing reforms!
The government has pledged to tackle inadequate licensing of lap dancing clubs via reforms contained in the Policing and Crime Bill- but their proposals do not go far enough on 2 major counts:
1. The reforms will be optional – so whether you actually get a say in the licensing of a lap dancing club (including raising objections on the grounds of sexism) will depend on your postcode.
2. The reforms won’t apply to venues holding lap dancing nights less than once a month. This will create a big loophole for pubs/bars etc that put on regular lap dancing nights, catered for by a growing number of agencies. There are already signs that venues will be quick to take advantage.
Please take 3 quick steps to help ensure the reforms actually deliver:
1. Sign Object and the Fawcett Society’s petition to Number Ten: http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/lapdance-reforms/
2. Write to your MP and ask them to support tougher reforms
3. Write to your local newspaper
