Nia Project – Working for the safety of women and children

This exciting new project aims to prevent vulnerable young women from committing gun, knife and gang related crime, and to support young men to build safe, respectful relationships. This partnership project brings together the expertise of the nia project, The Children’s Society and The Makeda Weaver Project (Shian Housing Association) to work in Hackney, Haringey, Lewisham and Greenwich. This project is funded by the DCSF Youth Sector Development Fund until 31 March 2011. We have the following vacancies:

Safe Choices Project Manager Based in Islington
NJC 36-39 incl ILW (32,098 – £34,785)

The Project Manager will be responsible for operational management and co-ordination of the project, including the development and delivery of training, a project toolkit and consultancy. The post holder will have an experience of project management, casework management and income generation.

Young People’s Workers (x2)
NJC 27-30 incl ILW (£25,301- 27,724) Based in Islington

the nia project will employ two Young People’s Workers to work with service users in Hackney and Haringey. Young People’s Workers are responsible for the development and delivery of all young women’s work and co-delivery of young men’s groupwork in one borough each. Post holders will have significant experience of working with vulnerable young people with offending behaviours.

These posts are open to women only under S7 (2) (e) of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975. Successful candidates will be required to undertake an Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure.
