National Strategy Meeting to Oppose Immigration Controls – Feminist Fightback

We are all well aware of the ever-increasing government restrictions on immigration: the expansion of detention centres, the increase in legal barriers to migration, the opening of the new border control centre in Calais. This government xenophobia has been met with resistance and activism from migrants and their allies. To be frank, though, it is not clear how successful this resistance has been. We’ve all marched against detention centres, for example, yet the government seems bound and determined to continue imprisoning migrants.

Feminist Fightback is calling two meetings, one in London and one in Manchester, to discuss what strategies might be most effective in opposing border controls, and how all of us opposing border controls can better co-ordinate our efforts.

The London Meeting will take place at the Arbour Community Centre, 100 Shandy Lane, E1 4ST; 9 May, 4 – 6 pm. Cancelled – see http://www.womeninlondon.org.uk/?p=786

The Manchester meeting will take place at the University of Manchester, 20 May, 7pm – 9 pm.
