Caring for the Carers – Managing the Secondary Effects of Working with Domestic Violence for Domestic Violence Workers NEW

This course is designed to help professionals understand and identify the dynamics and psychological issues arising from work with victims of domestic violence. Support is given to address the issues with the client and to promote strategies for self-care, highlighting the appropriate use of supervision and debriefing. It provides an opportunity to recognise and celebrate achievements and reflect on challenges met at a personal and professional level.
Adolescent Domestic Violence Training for domestic violence workers working with teenagers as victims and perpetrators of domestic violence
Costs: £90 (vol), £130 (stat)
Dates: 16th June 2009.
This course will expand on previous knowledge about domestic violence and will focus particularly on the experience of teenagers. Related issues such as teenage pregnancy, specific issues faced by boys, barriers to accessing services, sexual violence and gangs will be covered. The course also explores the issue of young people as perpetrators of abuse towards dating partners and/or family members. The course will explain how to ask about violence in teenagers own intimate relationships, how to give advice and how to risk assess and safety plan. There will be networking opportunities to discuss your own practice and meet other professionals working in similar fields.
