Developments in Prostitution Policy – 15th May 2009 – Eaves POPPY Project and LSBU
One day conference to be held at London South Bank University
Friday 15th May 2009 from 9.30am – 4.30pm
The main aim of this conference is to present and discuss some of the key issues associated with prostitution. Over the past few years there have been a number of policy developments associated with prostitution. These have centred around the issues of the demand for paid sexual services, human trafficking and exiting prostitution.
At the same time significant changes have been taking place in relation to street prostitution, as well as in the ways in which prostitution is policed. The relationship between the police and people involved in prostitution has changed significantly in recent years, as a result of which questions have been raised about the role of the police in regulating prostitution.
In 2008, following a six-month review of legislative and non-legislative approaches to tackling demand for prostitution, the Government introduced new measures addressing demand in the Policing & Crime Bill. As the proposed legislation proceeds through Parliament, the debate around prostitution has intensified. This conference will explore the latest developments in UK prostitution policy, in particular demand for prostitution and exiting development.
