Launch of Demand Change! – Eaves and Object – 24th June 2009

Joint campaign by Eaves and OBJECT; tackling attitudes and challenging demand for prostitution.

OBJECT and Eaves are launching the Demand Change! Campaign which calls on the Government to fulfil its multiple international and domestic obligations to tackle demand for prostitution. We advocate for the Government to adopt the `Nordic model’ which decriminalises those who sell sexual services whilst criminalising those who purchase them (as adopted by Sweden, Norway, Finland and soon Iceland). This will be a crucial step towards ending the exploitation and abuse experienced by many women and girls in prostitution.

Victor Malarek, an award winning Canadian journalist (author of The Natashas) will be speaking at the event about his new book `The Johns’ – which looks at the demand for prostitution. Other speakers are tbc but will include survivors of prostitution, Fiona Mactaggart MP, Denise Marshall (Eaves), Dr. Sasha Rakoff (OBJECT), Mary Honeyball MEP, Cath Elliot (Unison) and Finn Mackay (London Feminist Network).
