Job Description |
Details: The Arbour Women’s Project aims to increase participation and integration of young BME women in Tower Hamlets who have migrated to the UK in the past year. The project seeks to equip women in the target group with the knowledge and skills to tackle barriers to education and employment, increase their access to local services and improve their quality of life. We seek to empower the women with whom we work to have greater control over their own lives. A key element of the project is the mentoring scheme, which was set up in 2008. Integration needs to be a two-way process and we seek to involve the local community in the process. The mentoring scheme involves volunteer mentors working on a 1:1 basis with project participants to provide personalised support to women during their first year and provide an opportunity for them to practice their English in everyday situations. The scheme also promotes good relationships across Tower Hamlets’ diverse communities. We are looking for a suitable qualified and experienced person to provide vision and leadership for the mentoring scheme, with responsibility for the strategic planning, delivery, development and monitoring of the scheme. The successful candidate will have the skills, knowledge and experience to work effectively and supportively with both mentors and mentees. Responsibilities: Hours: This is a part-time post, 2 days (14 hours) p/w. There is flexibility as to days worked. NB This post is exempt under the Employment (Sex Discrimination) Act 2000 and open to self-defining women only. |
