New National Freephone Rape Helpline from 1st August 2009 – RASASC

The Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre (RASASC) in Croydon is pleased to announce the launch of a free phone number for their helpline service together with extended opening hours from the 1st of August 2009. The new number which is completely free from landlines and public phones, and will not appear on caller’s bills, is also free from the main six UK mobile networks 3, Orange, Virgin, Vodafone, T-Mobile and O2, enabling some of our most vulnerable service users to access a helpline free and confidentially.

From the 1st of August the RASASC helpline will be open every day of the year, including weekends and bank holidays, from 12 – 14.30 and in the evening from 19.00 – 21.30, taking calls nationally from female and male survivors as well as non-abusing families, partners, friends and other agencies. The free phone number together with extended hours has been funded as a special initiative through the City Parochial Foundation, a grant giving trust working to enable and empower the poor of London to tackle poverty and its root causes.

As usual RASASC will be referring callers outside of London looking for services in their area to their nearest Rape Crisis or specialist sexual violence support centre. Likewise you may find it useful to give this number and our opening hours on your answering machines during any periods you are closed or to any callers who may benefit from free phone provision. Our old numbers will still connect to our helpline however they will be phased out by 2010.
