South Africa: Rape survivors denied treatment Rape survivors are being denied treatment and care at a South African hospital near the Zimbabwean border if they have not first reported their case to the police.
Bosnia and Herzegovina: Women still seek justice Thousands of women were raped or sexually abused during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Fourteen years later, their suffering is yet to be acknowledged.
Iran: Protect election protesters Amnesty fears that several opposition political leaders who have been detained since the Iranian Elections on 12 June face being tortured.
Colombia: Fear for safety The family of an indigenous leader, campaigning for land rights has been threatened with death. Several indigenous leaders in the region have already been killed and others are in grave danger.
Mexico: Fear for safety Three active members of an indigenous rights organisation, were attacked by a gunman on 24 June while travelling to their home in the community of La Cortina.

Kuwait: Release of May Membriri Vecina Domestic worker May Membriri Vecina was pardoned on 1 June by the Amir of Kuwait. She should be returned to the Philippines on 24 June.
Burma: Protests across the world mark Aung San Suu Kyi’s 64th Birthday On 19 June, local and Burmese citizens were holding protests and events in over 20 cities across the world, calling for her release.

“Heroes and Heroines” Exhibition – Glasgow
(1 July – 31 July)
Eight remarkable women from around the world are profiled in Amnesty International’s celebration of freedom of expression and the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity. The presented heroines are: Anna Politkovskaya, Lydia Cacho, Anushka Anastasia Solomon, Shirin Ebadi, Arundhati Roy, Wangari Maathai, Aung San Suu Kyi and Woeser.
