Funding trainings voluntary sector groups working with women
As part of the WRC’s Building Futures project we work to support women’s organisations to become more financially stable by offering women’s organisations FREE training, 1:1 support and funding surgeries in specific boroughs.
1. Commissioning and Procurement – Understanding the Basics – Training
Date: Thursday 24 September
Time: 9.30am – 4pm

Who is it for?
Organisations new to commissioning that want to understand how to tender for a government contract
What’s it about?
With the move from grants to contracts, women’s organisations have to learn new skills to engage in new processes. This course will focus on current procurement and commissioning processes. It will also highlight what to look out for in tenders and contracts and address specific issues around funding women-only services.
What will I take away?
* Understanding of the procurement and commissioning process
* Explanations of contract jargon and key terms
* A tender checklist
* Knowledge of how tenders are evaluated
* Ideas of how to make a strong case for funding women-only services

2. Social enterprise and the women’s sector – Training
Date: Wednesday 14 October
Time: 9.30am – 3.30pm

Who is it for?
Organisations that want to explore the possibility of earning a trading income
What’s it about?
A social enterprise is a business with primarily social aims, whose profits are put back into the organisation or the community it serves. This course will help women’s organisations to understand what social enterprise is, how it relates to them and how to take advantage of the range of opportunities on offer.
What will I take away?
* Understanding of what social enterprise is
* Examples of social enterprises and their structures
* Ideas for innovative ways to generate an income

3. Funding Seminar for Women’s Organisations
Date: 28 September 2009
Time: 2:00 – 5:30pm
Venue: Room 2, Lewisham Civic Suite, Lewisham Town Hall, Catford, London SE6 4RU
Women’s Organisations are facing an uncertain future as funders and decision makers increasingly marginalise women-only services. Organisations need to think seriously about finding ways to diversify income. This seminar will look at how you can make your organisation more financially stable by engaging with alternative funding options.
This borough specific seminar is tailored to address your needs as women’s organisations and will include:
* Advice from local commissioners
* Learn how the commissioning process works in your borough from the commissioners themselves, including guidance on how to get involved
* Presentations by experts
* Social enterprise, developing income from individuals and partnership working – advice on how you can make them work for your organisation
* Influencing local commissioners
* Top tips on how to ensure your local commissioning process gives Women’s Organisations a fair chance and making sure your voice is heard
* Surgery session with speakers
* Raise your specific questions and concerns face to face with the experts
Networking
* Meet other women’s organisations, a chance share your work, issues and experiences
