Women in Prison – Supporting and campaigning for women offenders and ex-offenders

Do you have a commitment to working within a women-centred service and to making a difference to vulnerable women’s lives?

Women in Prison (WIP) is a unique national charity providing support, advice and guidance to women in prison or at risk of offending. We currently have the following vacancy:

2 year fixed-term contract

We are seeking to recruit an experienced counsellor to provide short-term counselling to women ex-offenders. You will provide one-to-one, short-term therapeutic interventions to individual women and facilitate a therapeutic ‘drop-in’ group for women together with emotional literacy/self-esteem workshops with groups of women.

You will need significant experience of working with vulnerable women and knowledge of the psychological impact of imprisonment on women. A post-graduate diploma/degree in counselling and BACP or UKCP accreditation (or eligibility for accreditation) is essential.

Mental Health Inclusion Worker (based in Islington)
£26,622 – £27,540 per annum (35 hours per week)
3 year fixed-term contract

Your role will involve providing advocacy, support, and advice services to women prisoners, ex-prisoners or women at risk of offending who have a diagnosed mental health support need or a significant history of traumatic life experience. With extensive knowledge of working within the mental health sector, relevant mental health policy and legislation and how this impacts on women within the criminal justice system you will develop both individual and group based interventions with women, formulating care plans and facilitating groups.

£27,948 – £29,172 per annum (35 hours per week)
3 year fixed-term contract

We are looking for a self motivated and enthusiastic project co-ordinator to oversee the BME Community Project providing a culturally specific advocacy, support and advice service to BME women.

The successful applicant will need experience of setting-up and running a specialist project within the voluntary sector, together with an understanding of the difficulties facing women who have experience of the criminal justice system. An ability to take responsibility for strategic project planning and experience of adhering to stringent monitoring procedures are essential. The role will also have responsibility for a small caseload of clients.
