Fawcett welcomes the Conservative Party’s new commitment to use All Women Shortlists
The Fawcett Society welcomes the announcements by Conservative Party leader David Cameron that they have changed their policy on All Women Shortlists.
Commenting on the Conservative Party plans to now use All Women Shortlists to increase the number of women MPs, Fawcett Chief Executive Ceri Goddard said:
“This is a positive and welcomed step by Mr Cameron – increasing women’s representation in Parliament is a key part of progressing women’s rights and strengthening our democracy.
We hope this reflects a broader commitment to action on other key issues for women such as equal pay and domestic violence, and to considering how Conservative policies in areas such as family and the economy will further women’s equality.
We look forward to working with the Conservatives and the other main parties to keep this important issue on the agenda.”
