Forced Marriage and Honour Based Violence (1 Day)
1 Dec 2009 or 14 Dec 2009

The session is aimed at developing an understanding of forced marriage.

The session will cover:
• Definitions of forced and arranged marriage
• Knowledge of the cultural roots surrounding forced marriage
• Information on marriage law
• An insight into the effects of forced marriage
• Different types of honour based violence
• Suggestions on how to deal with culturally sensitive cases

Domestic Violence & Cultural Awareness (1 Day)
16 Dec 2009 or 13 Jan 2010

This one day course enables staff to recognise culturally based behaviour (in it’s widest sense), in themselves and others and to see value in the differences. Also how to act appropriately and developing an understanding about domestic violence within a cultural context.

The session will cover:
• What is culture
• Community and Family structures within the South Asian community
• Knowledge of domestic violence within the BAMER communities

Advanced Domestic Violence (1 Day)
23 Nov 2009

The session is aimed at developing a more advanced knowledge of domestic violence. It is recommended that participants have a basic understanding of domestic violence before attending this course.

The session will cover:
• An overview of basic domestic violence
• Domestic Violence and Children (incorporating the Domestic Violence guidelines)
• Crime and Disorder Act
• Non-Molestation and Occupancy Orders
• Risk assessments
• Supporting women with multiple needs

Trainer – Anjum Mouj

Anjum Mouj is an experienced trainer, providing courses for voluntary, community, statutory, health and business agencies. She has experience of working in the Domestic Violence sector and is currently working with Imkaan. She is also a Management Committee member of Newham Asian Women’s Project and on the board of a leading charity supporting vulnerable adults with learning difficulties. She has a wealth of expertise, and is particularly knowledgeable about issues affecting women from black, minority and refugee communities.
