Course Description
This course looks at the overlapping issues of domestic violence and problematic substance use for women from the Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic and Refugee communities. Participants will be encouraged to explore the issues of ethnicity, gender and culture in women’s experiences of domestic violence and substance use.
Learning Objectives
* To gain an understanding of domestic violence and links to substance use and theories that underpin this work
* To understand the impact of disadvantage and discrimination on women from ethnic communities experiencing violence, abuse and substance use
* To know your responsibilities when working with migrant women
* To learn about safety planning and risk assessment for minority ethnic women who present with domestic violence and problematic substance use.
Who Should Attend?
Anyone working with domestic violence survivors from the Black, Asian, Minority, Ethnic and Refugee communities who wish to improve their response to survivors who have problematic substance use.
