Community Support Worker – Jewish Women’s Aid – 15th March 2010

Jewish Women’s Aid is the only charity in the UK working with Jewish women, and their children, affected by domestic violence. We run a refuge, community support service, helpline and education and awareness raising programmes.

We are currently looking to recruit a:

Community Support Worker
24 hours per week
from £24,095 (pro rata), depending on experience
One year fixed-term contract

The JWA community support service provides a vital lifeline for women experiencing physical, emotional, financial and sexual abuse. The team offers practical and emotional support including: risk and needs assessment, key work, safety planning and benefits and immigration advice. They also assist women to access counselling and legal advice.

The community support team is based in Barnet, with outreach work in Hackney. It is envisaged that this post will set up JWA’s outreach work in Redbridge, and work there one day a week.

You’ll be a proactive, creative individual with networking skills. You will be empathetic and able to work with people under stress. You will already have experience of working with vulnerable groups, ideally with women. Knowledge and understanding of domestic violence and the Jewish community is also essential.
