the nia project provides a wide range of services for women and children who have experienced domestic violence and other forms of gender violence.
The organisation is now recruiting for the following posts within the Children and Young People’ Service.
Safe Choices Project
This exciting project aims to prevent vulnerable young women from committing gun, knife and gang related crime, and to support young men to build safe, respectful relationships. This partnership project brings together the expertise of the nia project, The Children’s Society and LB Islington’s Gang Prevention Team, to work in Islington. This project is funded by LB Islington until 31 March 2011. The postholder will be employed by the nia project, but will based with the Gang Prevention Team at the local authority.
Young People’s Worker **(Funding until March 2011)
Full Time (35hrs/week)
Salary Range: NJC 27-30 (25,301 – £27,724 incl LW, Based in Islington
the nia project will employ a Young People’s Worker to work with service users in Islington. The postholder will be responsible for the development and delivery of all young women’s work and co-delivery of young men’s groupwork in the borough. The successful postholder will have significant experience of working with vulnerable young people with offending behaviours, as well a good understanding of ways in which experiences of gender violence and abuse impact on offending.
Family Learning Project
Family Learning Worker (Maternity Cover 6 Month Fixed Term Contract)
Full Time (35hrs/week)
Salary Range: NJC 27-30 (25,301 – £27,724 incl LW)
Based in Hackney (with travel across London required)
We are delivering a pan-London Family Learning Project working with mothers/carers and their children (0-16 yrs) from Black, minority ethnic and refugee communities who have been affected by domestic violence. Family learning opportunities will be offered to enable mothers/carers and their children to learn together, developing new skills such as cookery, crafts and IT, whilst also developing parenting skills.
The Family Learning Worker will work with the Family Learning Team, across London, delivering a range of programmes and workshops.
Play Worker (Family Learning) (Funding until March 2011)
Part Time (16hrs/week) including some evenings and weekends
£8.50 per hour
Based in Hackney (with travel across London required)

The Play Worker will work with the Family Learning Team, across London, to support mothers and their children whilst they participate in activities. The post holder will have a minimum of two years experience in working in a childcare setting.

the nia project Children and Young People’s Service are looking for three enthusiastic holiday play workers to help run this year’s Spring and Summer Playscheme’s which will run from April 2010 (excluding bank holidays) and 2-27 August 2010.

Sessional Workers Needed
£20-25 per hour on free lance basis
Parenting Project is a Hackney based project working in partnership with DVIP (the Domestic Violence Intervention Project), a best practice organisation working with perpetrators of gender violence, as well as women and children.
Project aims:
This work will aim to reduce the impact of domestic violence on parenting capacity and children. We will work with parents who are affected by current or previous violence, including both victim/survivors and perpetrators.
We are looking for experienced workers to co-facilitate groupwork programmes for either mother’s and fathers groups. Programmes will be approximately 14-20 weeks long and may also include opportunities for some 1:1 work.
Workers should have experience of delivering group work, a good understanding of group dynamics as well as an understanding of violence against women issues, parenting and child protection.
Sessional Workers for the Mothers Parenting Group must be female. Section 7 (2)e of the Sex Discrimination Act (1979) applies.
* Interviews to be held during the week commencing 22 Feb (please state availability).
* Mandatory training will be held on 4-5 & 25-26 March (attendance on all days essential).
