At Solace Women’s Aid we work with women and children in London affected by domestic and sexual violence and provide an extensive range of services including safe housing, advice and legal support, counselling and specialist support for children who are often traumatised by what they have seen.
Last year we provided support for 3,500 women and children. London has higher rates of domestic violence than the average for England and Wales, a quarter of women in the UK will experience domestic violence at some point in her life and two women are murdered each week in this country by their current or former partner.
We are constantly fundraising to support the work we do – especially for our children’s services as there is not widespread acknowledgment that children growing up with domestic violence are affected by it – we know however through our work that in most cases there is a negative impact in the short and long term.
