Women in Publishing Event
Wed 14 April 2010 – Poetry

Join us at The Savoy Tup function room in London for the April meeting.

Our topic this month is poetry, with Anna McKerrow, Sue Sims and Azadeh Taj.

Anna McKerrow studied for a BA in English Literature at the University of the West of England and an MA in Poetic Practice at Royal Holloway, University of London. She is interested in conceptual art and developing the relationship between the arts and spirituality. The Fast Heat of Beauty was her first collection of poetry, published by Flambard Press in 2008. Her poem Occasional Lover was included in the Forward Book of Poetry 2009 and she has had poetry and articles published in a range of magazines. She has just finished her second book.

Anna teaches creative writing, mainly to adults, for Surrey County Council. She has also recently worked with the Bookbite project, a resource aimed at increasing confidence in writing for the over 60s, and has worked on the Everybody Writes project for almost two years, helping primary and secondary teachers create interesting writing projects for their pupils.

Sue Sims is founder, co-director and co-editor of Poetry Space Ltd, a new publishing company set up to promote wider participation in poetry and to showcase the work of new and established poets through its monthly international online magazine, printed publications and workshops. The online magazine can be viewed at http://www.poetryspace.co.uk

Sue has written poetry since childhood and her work has appeared in a variety of poetry magazines and anthologies. Last autumn she visited schools as a writer for the Threshold Prize. Sue combines her writing and publishing interests with her work as a counsellor in Bristol.

Azadeh Taj is also co-director and co-editor of Poetry Space Ltd. Writing poetry since childhood, Azadeh has now published over 40 poems in print and online.

She has contributed to numerous literary journals such as Identity Theory in New York and Hermes and Tangent in Australia. Azadeh is also a journalist, with features published in The Times, Polemic and reported news for Thomson Reuters and The Local Government Lawyer.

Azadeh combines her love of poetry, art, modelling and acting to inspire others to embrace their creativity through Poetry Space.
