The Lady of Burma – WAN – 24th June 2010

The Lady of Burma by Richard Shannon
24th June 2010 – 7.00pm

Liana Mau Tan Gould makes her final public appearance as Burmese leader Aung San Suu Kyi in this compelling solo performance about the life of the only Nobel Peace Prize winner who is also a political prisoner. Despite being the democratically elected leader of the country, Burma’s military junta have kept Suu Kyi under house arrest for over a decade.

This powerful performance has already made sell-out appearances at the Old Vic in London, the Edinburgh Festival, the Riverside Studios and a national tour. The play has been produced in Warsaw, Bangalore and Oslo.

Regardless of what you know or think about Burmese politics, this show is an unmissable hymn to the power of the human spirit in the quest for freedom.

“Personal and political have rarely been so ferociously connected… Gould delivers with incendiary force.” The Times

A Q & A will follow the play, with the writer/director Richard Shannon and others
