Food Growing Training – WEN – 21st June 2010
Do you want to grow your own herbs, salads, fruits and vegetables?
* Free training in organic food growing at John Scurr Community Centre
* Supported volunteer placement with community gardening projects in Tower Hamlets
* Classes start this month!
Run by the Local Food Team at the Women’s Environmental Network
What will I gain from the programme?
* Four weeks free training (six hours per week) in organic food growing skills, including an induction to Women’s Environmental Network, and visits to local gardening projects.
* A free food growing starter kit, including hand trowel and hand fork, seeds, gardening gloves, potting compost, and a container/window box.
* An opportunity to meet and train with like-minded women in Tower Hamlets.
* A certificate of achievement, and a reference for future employers or training schemes once you have completed the programme.
* An opportunity to volunteer at local community gardens to put your new skills into practise, and a chance to become a Local Food Ambassador.
* Free lunch at the training sessions, and travel expenses for attendance of the training sessions/placements,
* Access to further training opportunities.
What is expected of me if I join?
* An interest in food and food-growing
* Regular attendance at the weekly training sessions.
* A willingness to share your knowledge with other women
* An interest in volunteering at local food-growing projects and gardens
Do I need to have experience of food growing to join the programme?
No. The only requirements are an interest in food growing, and regular attendance at the training sessions and your volunteer placements.
When will the training be?
The training will start on Monday 21st June. Please confirm your attendance before the first class.
Class 1: Monday 21st June 2010 (9.30-3pm)
Class 2: Monday 28th June 2010 (9.30-3pm)
Class 3: Monday 5th July 2010 (9.30-3pm)
Class 4: Monday 12th July 2010 (9.30-3pm)
Where will the training be?
Classes will take place at John Scurr Community Centre on Bekesbourne Street, Limehouse, London E14 7JQ
Will I be paid for attending the training or my placement project?
No, the programme is a voluntary one, so you will not be paid for attending. However, training is provided free of charge, your travel will be reimbursed and lunch will be provided at training sessions.
