Communications intern – Fawcett – 8th June 2010

Time Commitment:
• 2 – 4 days per week, 3 months

The Placement:
• This internship offers an excellent opportunity for someone wanting to gain communications experience within a campaigning organisation. Fawcett is the leading organisation fighting for greater equality between men and women in the UK.

Main Tasks:
• In conjunction with the Communications Officer manage our online profile including:
– - controlling the Fawcett twitter account
– - managing the Fawcett facebook group
– - maintaining the Fawcett Society website
• Manage our media monitoring service and ensure the Communications Officer is kept abreast of coverage on a daily basis; produce weekly round ups to inform all staff of coverage achieved.
• Complete the monthly monitoring proforma to track Fawcett’s impact across the full range of external communications
• Assist in the research, writing and dissemination of press statements, including co-ordinating responses to incoming inquiries
• Assist in the research, writing and dissemination of Fawcett’s monthly e-bulletins
• Where appropriate, take the lead in occasional pieces of graphic design work including for example laying out and designing policy documents or other similar publications, formatting photos and other visual media for the website.
• Assist where appropriate with other communications related functions
• On occasion pitch in to support the Fawcett staff team more generally

Skills and Knowledge required:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Good IT skills, including experience of social networking sites
• Skilled in at least one of the following design programmes: In Design, Photoshop or Illustrator
• Excellent desktop research skills
• Good organisational skills
• Ability to work using initiative on your own and as part of a team
• Commitment to the aims of the Fawcett Society

Conditions:
• Fawcett interns are volunteers, but we are able to offer you travel costs within London and up to £4.00 day for lunch.
