Somali Domestic Violence Advice, Support and Outreach Worker
Qualification Level: Relevant qualifications

Salary: NJC Scale point 26-30 (£25,515 – £28,770 pro rata)
Contract Type: Two year fixed term
Hours: 28 hours per week

The Xaawaley Project has been working with Somali women in Islington since 2006 to raise awareness of domestic violence and provide advice and support to Somali women experiencing domestic violence. The Project is a partnership of three Somali organisations, Islington Somali Community, Somali Speakers Association and Somali Women and Girl’s Action Group and Solace Women’s Aid. This project is unique in the UK.

You will be able to speak and write fluently in Somali and English. You will need experience of working with Somali women and / or experience of working with women who have experienced domestic violence. You will have an in-depth understanding of culturally specific issues relating to Somali women and the Somali community in London as well as an understanding of the barriers to seeking help faced by women from newly arrived communities and Somali women in particular. As well as providing support to Somali women, the Outreach worker will raise awareness of domestic violence by providing outreach presentations to professionals and direct workshops with Somali women.

This project is generously funded by the Cripplegate Foundation.

Advice Worker

Hours: Full Time

Solace Women’s Aid is dedicated to providing a full range of services for women and their children, enabling them to live lives free from domestic and sexual violence.

We are now recruiting for new staff to join our highly motivated and committed team.

You will advise women experiencing domestic and/or sexual violence on their options, carry out risk assessments, do safety planning and make supported referrals. You should have a minimum of one year’s experience of working with this or a similar client group.

Closing Date: Tuesday 13th July at 5.00 pm
Interview Date: Wednesday 21st July
