women@thewell is an innovative new charity based in central London, founded to provide a uniquely holistic and multi-faceted range of services to vulnerable women caught in multiple cycles of abuse and social exclusion, equipping them with the skills, resources and support that they need, to successfully rejoin society. We have recently secured funding from the Ministry of Justice to extend our services by providing support to women offenders and those at risk of offending which will divert them from custody. At the moment this service is funded and the posts are fixed term until March 2011.
At women@thewell, services are provided for women by women and focus on:
• Prioritising gender differences and providing for women-centred growth
• Providing a flexible and multi-faceted response to a wide range of needs
• Recognising that extreme need in one area does not prohibit the ability to contribute in another.
We actively target our services toward women involved in pavement culture, specifically those who are sexually exploited through their involvement in prostitution. Additionally we seek to respond to the needs of women who have experienced trafficking.
women@thewell is available on a drop-in and planned basis to encourage and support women to:
• Determine their own problems and identify the support and services they require
• Access practical and emotional support within their own timescales and constraints
• Actively participate in the project
women@thewell is a resource, which is dedicated to women, giving them a chance to prioritise their needs, and work in partnership to find new ways of meeting those needs.
