For parents to move successfully into work, training or study, they need to know that their children are safe and well looked after. With welfare reform requiring more parents to look for work, finding the right childcare is more important than ever.
Childcare legislation has changed over the last few years and local authorities now have more duties than ever before to ensure that childcare is available to all families who need it alongside an increasing number of sources of financial help to meet the costs of childcare.

For 2010 we have introduced a new course!
Encouraging take-up of childcare in black, minority and ethnic communities
This course looks at ways to reach out to and engage with BME parents to encourage take-up of childcare services. Content includes: what childcare means for BME families; barriers to accessing childcare services for BME families; information needs of BME families; outreach and engagement techniques; and practical guidance on methods for effective communication.
Daycare Trust will also be running the following popular courses:
Help with childcare costs
This course gives advisers an overview of the help parents can get with the costs of childcare, using case studies and group work to show how the different types of help work in practice, and includes; support for parents who are studying, training or working, free early years education places, tax credits and the criteria for claiming and employer-supported childcare.
Childcare information and advocacy
This course offers practical guidance to advisers to support parents to identify and access the right childcare, including; an outline of local authorities’ duties, quality frameworks, supporting parents to choose and secure a childcare place and accessing childcare for children with additional needs. This course is ideal for advisers who are supporting parents who are thinking about or ready to start work or study.
All the courses are ideal for you if you support parents who are thinking about or are ready to start work or study. The courses are designed to provide an overview and practical guidance to complement the advice you are already offering in other areas. All courses start at 10am and finish at 4.30pm unless otherwise stated.
