Fawcett’s Legal Case Against Government’s Budget Reaches High Court
Permission hearing to take place on Monday 6th December 2010
In August, the Fawcett society lodged papers seeking a judicial review of the budget, after the Treasury failed to provide evidence that they had assessed whether budget proposals would increase or reduce inequality between women and men – as is required under equality law.
Fawcett has argued that this failure to take women’s equality into account has led to budgetary policies that are seeing women disproportionately bear the brunt of cuts in jobs, benefits and public services
On Monday 6th December, a ‘permission hearing’ to determine whether to grant a review will take place. This will see lawyers on both sides make their case in the High Court in London at the Royal Courts of Justice, Strand, London WC2A 2LL
