London-based Study on Harmful Practices / Violence Against Women – Imkaan
From December 2010 until February 2011, Imkaan will be carrying out a study for the Greater London Authority on violence against women with a specific focus on harmful practices in relation to Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic and Refugee (BAMER) women. The scope of this work will cover forced marriage, female genital mutilation, ‘honour-based violence,’ other customary beliefs and traditions and their links to violence. The evidence gathered from the study will assist in engaging partners in the statutory and voluntary sector, and support the case for services for BAMER women and children who are encountering harmful practices.
The report will inform policy development on a national, regional and local level and good practice will be highlighted. As part of the work, Imkaan will be mapping service provision, as well as prevalence through a snapshot survey, existing statistics and literature. We will also be interviewing practitioners, policy-makers, funders and commissioners, and carrying out focus group discussions. We will be conducting a series of interviews from the first week in January 2011.
Please contact us if you would like to contribute to the project or know anybody who would be interested in contributing.
