PhD Studentship – CWASU – 10th January 2011
PhD Studentship
Child and Woman Abuse Studies Unit (CWASU)
London Metropolitan University
Closing date: 10th January 2011
The Child and Woman Abuse Studies Unit, established in 1987, has a national and international reputation for its research, evaluation, consultancy and training on violence against women and children.
We are seeking a PhD student to undertake research on programmes for perpetrators of domestic violence, as part of a longitudinal study funded by the Economic and Social Research Council. The study is a partnership with Durham University, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Respect, the membership association for domestic violence perpetrator programmes and associated support services. The PhD project will systematically explore the programme process for perpetrators using digital recordings of programme sessions. Professor Liz Kelly, Director of CWASU, will be the lead supervisor. The successful candidate will be based in London but must be willing to travel across the UK as necessary.
Applicants must have a first or strong upper-second class degree in a relevant social science discipline, and preferably experience of analysing digital media. A Masters qualification in a relevant social science, which includes methodology components and competence in using a range of software packages is highly desirable. Knowledge of academic literature on violence against women, particularly domestic violence, would be an advantage.
The studentship includes fees and a bursary.
