Cinenova needs a computer to digitise videos and scan paper archive materials!

Please help us support the distribution and preservation of historical, international women’s film and video work

Cinenova – a volunteer-led, charitable organisation dedicated to preserving and distributing the work of women/feminist film and video makers, artists and activists.

Cinenova was founded in 1991 following the merger of two feminist film and video distributors: ‘Circles’ and ‘Cinema of Women’. Each was formed in the early 80s in response to a lack of recognition of the history of films and videos produced by women. Cinenova currently distributes over 500 titles that include experimental film, narrative feature films, artists’ film and video, documentary and educational videos, made from the 1920s to the present. Cinenova holds a large collection of paper materials, books and posters related to works it distributes, and the history and politics of film and video production. Some of the issues addressed in the work at Cinenova include oppositional histories, post-colonial struggles, reproductive labour, representation of gender and sexuality, and importantly, where these struggles intersect.

Our Campaign is to make film and video works by more than 350 International women/feminist film and video makers available to an audience that would otherwise be restricted by the cost of hiring specialised film and video equipment to watch these works or traveling to visit our offices. If we are able to digitise the existing works we can distribute this material more effectively and better promote these important films and videos.

The money that you donate will pay for
· 1 new 21.5 inch imac computer, including final cut pro software,
· A 1 terabyte external hard drive, and flatbed scanner.
This equipment will allow us to digitise and store video files of video transfers and scan paper archive materials.
