Pink Saris by Kim Longinotto – Women’s Action Network – 15th March 2011
The Human Rights Action Centre, 17-25 New Inn Yard, London EC2A 3EA
15th march 2011 at 7.00pm
Amnesty International UK’s Women’s Action Network hosts a screening and discussion on women’s rights in India with acclaimed director Kim Longinotto.
A girl’s life is cruel… A woman’s life is very cruel,” notes Sampat Pal, the complex protagonist at the centre of Pink Saris, internationally acclaimed director Kim Longinotto’s latest foray into the lives of extraordinary women. Sampat should know – like many others she was married as a young girl into a family which made her work hard and beat her often. But unusually, she fought back, leaving her in-laws and eventually becoming famous as a champion for beleaguered women throughout Uttar Pradesh.
This is an unflinching look at Sampat Pal’s all-women vigilante Gulabi Gang.
Followed by discussion and Q&A.
Admission is free but a £5 donation is requested towards the work of the Women’s Action Network
