Have your say on AV, the Coalition and the Cuts
A Women’s AV, Coalition and Cuts Agenda in 2011
Over the past three years Women in London has run surveys in the run up to local, national and European elections. You can see the survey results for
2010 at http://www.womeninlondon.org.uk/2010/05/notice-wil-2/,
2009 at http://www.womeninlondon.org.uk/2009/06/notices-wil/ and
2008 at http://www.womeninlondon.org.uk/about/localelections2008.htm
This year on 5th May there will be election for the National Assembly in both Northern Ireland and Wales, as well as local elections in some parts of the country. See http://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/elections/upcoming-elections-and-referendums.
In addition there is the national referendum on whether future general elections should use the existing First Part the Post (FPTP) system or switch to the Alternative Vote (AV) system. See http://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/elections/upcoming-elections-and-referendums/uk/referendum
So this year we are again taking this as an opportunity to find out what women who receive mailings from Women in London, or use the WiL website or womensgrid http://womensgrid.freecharity.org.uk, think about current political issues.
We want to find out your opinion on whether a change to the voting system will be of benefit to women’s representation within politics and the influence women can have on party politics.
And this year rather than asking about funding for women’s VAW services we thought we would focus on a much more fundamental question for feminists about the value of women only services.
As we have allowed fewer days than in previous years for responses to our “Women’s Agenda” survey, because of later then usual and additional bank holidays, we will not be including the section on voting patterns, and attitude to voting, but cant of course not ask women how the coalition government and the cuts are impacting on you.
We hope you will take time to complete some if not all parts of this year’s Women’s Agenda survey, as well as completing the last section which allows us to see how representative responses are in terms or age, ethnic identity, region, etc..
The sections are:
1 The value of women only services
2 Would a change to the voting system be beneficial to women?
3 The coalition, the cuts and you
4 About you
Whether you answer all or some of the questions please make sure you go through to the last page and click on the submit survey button to have your responses included in the survey results.
Please also note that all surveys completed online are anonymous.
If you have any problems with this online survey because of accessibility issues, we can send you the survey as a word document. Please contact us – thanks! (NB Surveys completed via a word document will be entered by us onto the survey.)
Please go to http://www.surveygizmo.com/s/533549/a-womens-av-coalition-cuts-agenda-2011 to complete the survey.
Please note the survey will only be open 48 hours and will close on Thursday 5th May 2011 at 9am.
We hope to publish the results on Friday 6th May 2011.
