Day 1: Understanding Forced Marriage and Honour Based Violence

By the end of this session participants will have a better understanding of the definitions of forced marriage and honour-based violence, historical and cultural roots and how this impacts on different communities. You will also have an introductory overview on the legal framework; risk and begin to shape strategies for developing effective service responses in this area.

Day 2: Risk and Case Management in Violence Against Women

By the end of the session you will have a more detailed understanding of existing models of risk assessment; specific risk indicators and safety planning. The session is designed to help you develop best practice around the management of risk, disclosure and safety planning.
Introduction To Working In The BMER Violence Against Women Sector

2 Day course
£60 / £95 – Imkaan full members / non-members
Provides those interested in, or new to, working or volunteering within the vaw sector with an understanding of violence and how it impacts on women and children, as well as an understanding of feminism and the historical and political context which led to the development of women’s refuge and other services. The session will also focus on the history, role and achievements of Black feminism in establishing both a movement and the development of the specialist BAMER women’s services.
