Volunteers and Counselling Volunteers – nia project – 5th May 2011

the nia project is a violence against women organisation that works to the safety of women and children. We are looking for volunteers and counselling volunteers to support on the delivery of the East London Crisis Rape Crisis service.

Are you interested in:
- being part of a team of volunteers who work on the East London Rape Crisis Referral and Information Line? You will be the first point of contact for clients. You will offer telephone advice and support (emotional and practical) to survivors of sexual violence, to family and friends concerned about a loved one, and to other professionals.
Or
- being part of the therapeutic team, offering one to one and group counselling to survivors of sexual violence?

You will get:
- The opportunity to work with a leading, London based violence against women organisation
- Full supervision, support and clinical supervision, as offered to our employed staff
- Professional development support
- Specialised internal training on sexual violence, helpline support, organisational systems and policies
- Where available, access to other volunteer and employment opportunities across the organisation
- A professional reference against the pre-defined Profile of Volunteer Responsibilities that can be used for future employment
- An opportunity to volunteer for a feminist organisation, offering invaluable support to survivors of sexual violence

Volunteers must:
- Have an interest in, and understanding of the issues relating to sexual violence and violence against women and girls
- Be available to dedicate to at least 7 hours per week of volunteering with us (open to discussion)
- Be female. Section 7 (2) (e) of the Sex Discrimination Act (1979) applies.
- Counselling Volunteer must be in their last year of therapeutic/counselling training, with work/volunteer experience in the field of sexual violence. We are happy to discuss placement options with you as part of your course requirements
