Inaugural meeting of campaign to combat cuts to women’s sector – Eaves – 18th July 2011
The Coalition Government’s cuts to public spending are hitting the Women’s Sector hard both in terms of the services we deliver and our jobs, pay and conditions of employment. The competitive tendering process which, as service providers, we are forced to enter into is driving down our wages and eroding our professionalism. If we don’t do something to reverse this trend the gains that we in our sector have made during the last four decades will disappear and progress towards equality for women put back years.
There are a number of campaigns being fought across London and the rest of the UK but, in order for us to be effective, there must be a coordinated fight back.
We in the Eaves Housing branch of London Housing Association UNISON feel strongly that we must work together and would like to invite your organisation to nominate a delegate to attend an inaugural meeting to set up a steering group to get the campaign off the ground.
This meeting is scheduled for the 18th July at 4.00.p.m. at Eaves, Unit 2.03, Canterbury Court, Kennington Park, 1 – 3 Brixton Road, SW9 6DE.
We propose working towards launching our campaign with a public meeting in central London on the 7th September.
Please contact Jo Clarke / 0207 840 7123 or Anna Gaunt / 0207 840 7955 to register your interest as soon as possible.
We cannot sit back and allow these brutal cuts to services to women take hold.
Let’s unite to save our specialist services and defend our jobs before it’s too late.
