OBJECT Meets the PM

We are proud to announce that OBJECT was one of a select group of NGOs who yesterday met with the Prime Minister in his bid to challenge the sexualisation of children by the media.

The meeting fell swiftly after the announcement of Government plans to ensure an ‘opt in’ system for internet porn and better complaints procedures for sexist imagery in media from TV, through radio to billboard ads.

Our message to the Prime Minister is that it is imperative that these measures are introduced for the right reasons: because of the harms associated with the ever-increasing sexual objectification of women and girls.

As a result of our meeting, specific comittments were made around the importance of expanding new ASA guidance related to the hyper-sexualisation of women on billboard advertising and around restricting advertising for lap dancing clubs. We also addressed the sexual objectification of women in newspapers which attracted support from a number of NGOs around the table
