The Latin American Women’s Rights Service (LAWRS) is a community development organisation run by and for Latin American women migrants in the UK. Established in 1983, LAWRS’ mission is ‘to provide tools for growth to empower Latin American women in the UK to pursue personal and social change’. Our services include advice, information, training and personal development activities along three themes of gender based violence, poverty alleviation and recognition.

Our Director is going on maternity leave and we are looking for an highly organised, motivated woman, with excellent & thorough knowledge of the situation of Latin American women in the UK, to lead the organisation through the next year.

The Director’s principal responsibilities are:
· Maintaining, promoting and developing the aims and objectives of LAWRS and ensuring that its work meets the highest possible standards.
· Ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of LAWRS, overseeing staff, project delivery, administration & finances, information & publicity and complying with legal obligations, and ensuring adequate resources, income & systems are in place to enable the organisation functions efficiently and effectively.
· Promoting the needs and concerns of Latin American women in the UK and representing their key interests with statutory and voluntary agencies at local, regional and national levels.
Operational day-to-day management:
- Staff management & supervision
- Administration & financial management
- Overseeing successful & effective delivery of projects and funding plans
- Donor reporting & relationships
- Maintaining professional quality standards

Strategic development:
- Fundraising (trusts, government and strengthening individual donations)
- Securing financial sustainability for the organisation
- Networking, developing new and strengthening existing partnerships
- Leading on the creation of a social enterprise & trading arms
- Representing the organisation & community’s interests at all levels

You should have a strong background in gender, community development/ women’s human rights, and an excellent knowledge of the Latin American women in the UK. You must also be fluent (verbally & written) in English and Latin American Spanish (ideally also Portuguese).

We are ideally looking for a full-time post-holder; however we will consider a part-time post (as Operational or Strategic Director) where your strengths lie in one of the above areas.
