IRIS Advocate Educator – nia project – 12th December 2011

IRIS improves the quality of care given by GP surgeries to women experiencing domestic violence

IRIS is a general practice-based domestic violence training support and referral programme that has been evaluated in a randomised controlled trial. Core areas of the programme include training and education, clinical enquiry, care pathways and an enhanced referral pathway to a specialist advocate educator within a local specialist service. The target patient population is women who are experiencing, or who have experienced, domestic violence from a current partner, ex-partner or adult family member. IRIS also provides information and signposting for male victims and for perpetrators.

The advocate educator works in partnership with a local clinical lead, a practicing clinician, to co-deliver the training to practices.
