Head of Operations & Coordinator (Safe Choices) – nia project – 5th December 2011
Safe Choices reduces and prevents violent offending by young women by working with them within the wider context of their life experiences.
Safe Choices addresses complex, difficult and sensitive issues with young women who are often alienated from other services and who may not trust adults easily. The young women are frequently exposed to multiple risk factors that can lead to poor life chances and leave them vulnerable to involvement in abusive and exploitative relationships as well as involvement in criminal activity. The programme focuses on developing resilience and positive support networks whilst challenging patterns of offending behaviour to enable young women to develop healthy and safe relationships. Safe Choices is delivered through young women experiential group work programmes, intensive one-to-one support and awareness and capacity building with professionals.
nia has been awarded funding by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund to deliver Safe Choices work in Hackney and Islington. This work will start in spring 2012. In addition, The Children Society and nia have also recently been awarded funding by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund to develop the Safe Choices project to work with young women leaving care and youth offenders’ institutes. This programme will be delivered from January 2012.
We are recruiting for the following posts:
- Position Title: Head of Operations (Safe Choices)
Salary Range: £36,500-£39,000
To lead the development and delivery of the Safe Choices Programme and other projects in nia as determined by current delivery and opportunities
- Position Title: Coordinator (Safe Choices) (Part-time 21 hours)
Salary: £17,100 – £18,300 (equivalent to £28,500-£30,500 pro-rata)
To support the Head of Operations in the delivery of the Safe Choices Programme.
Both posts include responsibility for ensuring the project reaches targets in work with young people as well as for income generation, line management of staff and managing contracts with partnership agencies.
We’re looking for highly organised and self motivated women who are passionate about ending gender-based violence and are able to take responsibility for project development. You’ll have a ‘can-do’ approach and demonstrable commitment to nia’s feminist approach to supporting women, children and young people to reach their full potential.
