Policy and Campaigns Internship – Women and Power campaign – Fawcett Society – 16th January 2012

Time Commitment: 2-3 days per week, 3 months maximum
Start Date: Early February 2012

The Placement:

The Fawcett Society has led the campaign for women’s equality in the UK since 1866 and has a long history of working inside and outside of parliament to effect both legislative and cultural change.

We are currently undertaking two major campaigns to address:
* Women’s access to power, particularly the huge under-representation of women in politics
* the disproportionate impact on the government’s cuts on women

Main Tasks:
* Review and compile information from journals, research reports, the media, websites and blogs
* Monitor the external environment for latest reports, policy news and statistics on the subject of women and power
* Maintain and update an internal database with statistics related to women’s political power
* Assist in the writing of campaign briefings and policy documents
* Assist in developing public campaign actions
* Assist in planning for internal and external campaign meetings
* Assist in planning external events
* Administrative tasks as required

Skills and Knowledge:

Required:
* Extensive desk-based research experience
* Experience of event planning
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Some experience of campaigning
* Good organisational skills
* Good IT skills
* Administrative experience
* Commitment to the aims of the Fawcett Society

Desirable:
* Parliamentary knowledge
* Experience of organising public events
* Keen interest in Fawcett’s current campaigns

Conditions:

Fawcett interns are volunteers, but we are able to offer you travel costs within London and up to £4.00 day for lunch.
