IRIS National implementation manager – maternity cover – nia project – 16th January 2012

IRIS improves the quality of care given by GP surgeries to women experiencing domestic violence

IRIS is a general practice-based domestic violence training support and referral programme that has been evaluated in a randomised controlled trial. Core areas of the programme include training and education, clinical enquiry, care pathways and an enhanced referral pathway to a specialist advocate educator within a local specialist service. The target patient population is women who are experiencing, or who have experienced, domestic violence from a current partner, ex-partner or adult family member. IRIS also provides information and signposting for male victims and for perpetrators.

The IRIS implementation project is the commissioning of the IRIS model nationally. The IRIS implementation project aims to build upon the successes and outcomes of the IRIS research project in order to bring about mainstreaming of the IRIS model in the UK. This includes delivery of the IRIS training for trainers programme.
