Supporting Survivors of Rape – 20th April 2012
Focusing on adult rape, this session is aimed at professionals and individuals who work in any capacity with both female and male survivors of adult rape. The day will cover both the myths and realities of rape, its impacts for survivors and society, the ways both women and men re¬spond and the best ways of supporting survivors of rape.
Supporting Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse – 18th May 2012
The majority of women accessing Rape Crisis Centres are survivors of childhood sexual abuse and as such there is a wealth of practice-based evidence within all Rape Crisis Centres. This session aims to share that knowledge, highlighting the myths and realities of childhood sexual abuse, identifying the grooming practices of perpetrators and linking these to the responses of survivors, discussing the impacts of abuse as well as the strategies survivors use in surviving it, and identifying best practice in supporting adult and child survivors of childhood sexual abuse.
Rape and the Legal System 1st June 2012
The law around rape is notoriously misunderstood and recent reports have highlighted the difficulties in prosecution. This session is designed for anyone who supports survivors of rape through the legal system, whether that be from initial thinking about reporting through to trial. It will equip learners with an understanding of the processes, changes in law and support available to survivors of sexual violence who choose to go through the criminal justice system.
