Women in London : e-update example

28th November 2005

25th November is White Ribbon Day - International Day Against Violence Against Women. You can read about the history of White Ribbon Day at http://www.quicktopic.com/19/H/nV4WDtdd6iMqf/m1050

25th November is also the start of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence. Read more about this and the theme for this year - For the Health of Women, For the Health of the World: NO MORE VIOLENCE - at http://www.quicktopic.com/19/H/nV4WDtdd6iMqf/m1051

We are pleased to include a larger than usual number of notices on our Public Notice Board from women's groups around the country - see the section "Other Women's News"

Unfortunately, this important issue for women - "Violence causes more death and disability worldwide amongst women aged 15-44 than war, cancer, malaria or traffic accidents" - doesn't seem to be reflected in the media. For instance although the BBC is going to mark World Aid's Day of 1st December they chose not to mark 25th November (both are recognised by the UN). You can ring them on 0870 010 0222 to find out why they don't think these two events are of equal significance - we're still waiting to hear!

In the meantime on Women in London itself we are pleased to say that Women's Health Concern is now part of the directory - so welcome to Women's Health Concern (1)
