Greater London Domestic Violence Project
Working to end domestic violence in Greater London by supporting direct service providers and promoting joint working

The Greater London Domestic Violence Project (GLDVP) is part of London Action Trust, a voluntary organisation which works to break the cycle of offending and create safer communities in Greater London.

The GLDVP was set up in 1997 with the aim of increasing safety for survivors of domestic violence, and to hold abusers accountable for their behaviour.  We work to ensure that good practice in domestic violence work is transferred across London, bring together key agencies to develop London-wide policies, raise awareness about domestic violence and increase the effectiveness of inter-agency work.

A major part of the work of the project since 2001 has been the development of the first ever London Domestic Violence Strategy which was published jointly with the Greater London Authority and the Association for London Government.  This aims to co-ordinate domestic violence work across all sectors and a London-wide Domestic Violence Forum has been established to ensure that this work is carried forward.

Other recent exciting developments have included:

  • the establishment of an internet support group which receives over 200,000 hits a month
  • working in partnership with Cityspace to provide practical information for survivors of domestic violence on all 200 of their recently installed i-point internet kiosks.
We have also recently secured funding to develop the support which the project provides to the voluntary sector.  We aim to increase the opportunities for voluntary sector groups to network, share information and develop support mechanisms.

Among other things we will be producing a monthly e-bulletin to update people on key work going on in our project and around domestic violence in London, as well as useful pieces of information.  Please pass on anything you would like added - as the email and postal mailing list grows it will be a good way to share information with a lot of other relevant organisations.  If your group wants to receive the e-bulletin please send us your email or postal address so as to be added to the list.
