The 20th Anniversary Celebrations - 20 years and still moving forward
A Day to celebrate FORWARD'S work against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)
and other harmful traditional practises, affecting African women and children.
Monday, 21 April 2003 - Linbury Studio Theatre [Royal Opera House], Covent Garden
  • Afternoon Session (3.00 pm) - IKPIKO (A Nigerian play performed by Collective Artistes followed by panel discussion; FGM vs Designer Vaginas)
  • Evening Music Concert (7.00 pm) - SKIN (Formerly of Skunk Anansie) MOVEMENT ANGOL: (Presents: .Sieze and Settle.; an eclectic mix of contemporary African, street-dance fusion) - BLACK SONSHINE (An intimate acoustic South African duo)
We are hosting a varied and interesting event, which will showcase one method of intervention - a market place play "Ikpiko - Sense of Belonging", which was successful in raising awareness in Delta State, Nigeria.  The state passed a law against Female Genital Mutilation in 2002.

The play will be followed by a round-table discussion; the keynote speaker will be Ms Efua Dorkenoo OBE.  The topics discussed will include the new FGM Bill, the conflict between FGM and 'Designer Vaginas' and FORWARD's focus for the next 20 years.

There will be the opportunity for participants to mingle and network over tasty snacks before the musical concert in the evening.

The concert features a variety of African artists as well as a guest appearance by one of FORWARD's patrons, Skin (formerly of Skunk Anansie).

Tickets cost £15 for the play and roundtable discussion, and £20 for the concert.  For a limited time there are discounted tickets for the whole event for £30!!
