Press Release on the Occasion of International's Women's Day, 8th of March:
Looking towards the eighth of March in the difficult political, social and economic conditions we, the Palestinian people live and face, International Women's Day appears before us all as a day for all women to celebrate, a day preserved as a moment of opposition and defiance, a symbol of our struggle for human rights and equality that we demand all over the world.
Looking towards the eighth of March, we, Palestinian women, stand defiantly over the graves of our innocent martyrs and children, challenging the violations of human rights practiced against our people daily. (click here for full text)

AFGHAN WOMEN'S RIGHTS AND CHILD MARRIAGE TOP AGENDA
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY 2002
New York, Peshawar and London:-  a new video in which Afghan widows talk about their lives is being shown in three world cities to mark International Women's Day. Made by the Afghan Women's Council with the support of WOMANKIND Worldwide, the video will be part of gatherings where Afghan women come together with non-governmental organisations and policy-makers to discuss keeping women's rights on the table as reconstruction of Afghanistan gets underway and planning for the country's future continues.
Forced and early marriage - a live issue for Afghan women and girls and for millions of others across the world - is also on the advocacy agenda at this time. WOMANKIND is highlighting the issue right now at the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in New York, linking the practice to poverty - the theme of this year's Commission.1
