Latin American Women's Rights Service (LAWRS)

LAWRS provides free services, in Spanish, for Latin American Women.
All our services are strictly confidential.
We have a number of projects.


The Housing, Money and Debt Project:  Virginia Cifuentes is in charge of this project.  The project provides one-to-one free advice on housing, money and debt issues, as well as workshops.

Community Development and Micro-businesses Project:  Laura Guardia is in charge of this project.  This project offers advice and information on developing new businesses or micro-businesses; practical support and capacity to work; as well as workshops and information packages in Spanish and English to set up your own business.

The Visit (La Visita) Project:  Dolly Rodríguez is in charge of this project which consists of visiting Latin American women who, because they are ill or in prison, are not able to come to LAWRS to receive advice. Dolly offers advice on housing, benefits, among other things.

Anahí counselling project:  Victoria Sanjuán is in charge of this project.  Anahi project provides the service of eight trained Latin American counsellors.  Women who need to attend counselling bringing their children are provided with a child minder during their session.

Haslac:  this is a service providing free interpreters for Latin American women who attend health practitioners in Camden and Islington.

Domestic violence project:  Claudia Hasanbegovic is in charge of this project.  The project offers a range of activities including: one-to-one specialised advice; workshops, articles, trainings and events to facilitate awareness raising, etc.  This is a new project which is in its initial stages.  For further information about when the project will start receiving clients, please contact LAWRS.

Volunteers project:  Frances Carlise is the Volunteers Project co-ordinor.  She is currently seeking asylum seekers and refugee Latin American women to volunteer at LAWRS.  The aim of targetting this group of women, is to facilitate their capacity building and integration into the British labour market.


LAWRS needs volunteers (Spanish/Portuguese and English speaking women only) for all its projects, as well as for administration and reception.  For more information please contact any of the above mentioned co-ordinators at LAWRS.
