Survey of Groups on Women in London - June / July 2000
Longer Comments
These are the additional suggestions and comments from the groups who completed the survey on the various questions asked and proposals made.

Directory Entries - Suggestions for What These Could Also Include:
  • For the training providers, maybe have the type of training as a separate heading, ie carpentary and joinery so it is easier to see, rather than having to read group purpose.
  • Campaigning areas
  • Recent special events or celebrations
  • Projects in progress; Events coming up; Volunteers / management committee bulletin board
  • Volunteers wanted
  • Ways assisted women (regain strength/confidence) improve relationships, make decisions, establish identity, maintain/improve health, stop self harm, leaving making endings, recover from burnout, cope with crisis differently, move out of depression

Group Listings - Other Suggested Categories:
  • Groups with commercial purpose like us
  • List of possible networks
  • Lesbian Groups

Women's Businesses, Freelancers, Services to Women - Comments:
  • But you would want some assurance that the services were compatible with your aims.
  • The categories should be differentiated both because they are business orientated and because of easier to find what you are looking for.
  • Provided the commercial businesses / services are listed separately.
  • Need to retain some sort of female focus of activities, but not to be exclusive
  • Businesses and consultants should be listed seperately - maybe a small charge could be applied to them also.
  • A women only focus should be prioritised.
  • List of approved counsellors and psychotherapists who are dyke oriented.
  • Might be a lot of work!

Additional Information - Suggestions for Other Categories:
  • Information about the organisation (general) ie problems and looking for support
  • Campaigns page; list of local groups
  • Information on lesbian activities
  • Funding Received / Funding Cut

Response to Policy - Comments on this and why not used by groups:
  • Lack of time. Some groups just do not like to share information.
  • Time. Relevance. Individualistic approach.
  • Maybe groups on reflection thought it wisest not to comment for fear of losing support / funding etc.
  • I should imagine that unless they are IT, unlike ourselves, groups don't actually spend a lot of time online due to funding restrictions and / or lack of time. And therefore don't come across this section because they are not online to browse.
  • Time scale
  • Lack of time!!
  • We don't have time to make use of it either by giving our opinion or looking at what other groups have to say.
  • Probably haven't got enough time
  • Too concerned with internal / local affairs to focus on global policy.
  • Are the policy makers taking an interest in this forum? Maybe these's a lack of faith that the opinions we'll put down will make a difference…
  • Not known about.
  • Exposure which may affect funding.
  • Was not aware of this as an option

Contributing to Additional Options - Okay or a Problem - Comments:
  • We have co-operated
  • I would think it is mainly lack of thought, internet access is still relatively new to vol. org., and people just need to be reminded that it is a very effective medium.
  • Apple mac users? - compatibility issues.
  • Some groups simply lack confidence in their own technological skills or do not have a person within the group who is responsible.
  • Stress the benefits for them and for you - if they do not provide it in accessible format there is less chance it will be put on (?)
  • Not convinced enough market out there for the sending of the information to be a priority.
  • Use Mac and so have different software.

Additions / Changes to the Directory - Comments:
  • I don't like "don't care" as an option!!
  • Lots of gossip particularly from dykes who are in high places and those who can influence funding applications.
  • Would prefer the monthly email of all info to the present ad hoc emails

Survey - Any Other Comments / Suggestions:
  • We have not used the service very much but I intend to publicise the site within the organisation, so apologies for brief feedback.
  • Look we know we've been one of the less interested groups, but we don't have an internet connection - this will be fixed asap - do you know of any funding fot IT for charities / women's facilities? If so please let us know - thanks
  • A lot of the suggestions in point 6 are really good ideas but would require someone working on these full time, can you afford this? The reason why I don't think it is necessary to email people telling them of changes n the directory, is because on the main page you say when the database has been updated and if used on a regular basis groups / individuals will see that the information is current. I think emailig everyone would just give your extra work.
  • Emailing list which a group could use to forward publicity and save you some work.
  • That women on the directory would share information and ideas with each other and to those using the site to find out about the groups
