is an initiative of microsyster, a women's group providing computer services to other women's groups and women working in the voluntary and charity sector in London for since 1982.
The purpose and intention of women in london is to:
- help groups working for women in London to quickly and easily make their details available via the Internet as it rapidly expands to become an accepted medium of communication, not only by other resource and referral agencies but by libraries, community based projects and the media
- allow individual women and support agencies in London who want to find appropriate services to be able to do this quickly and directly at a site with the shared focus of listings by and for women
We do not see this shared site as taking the place of groups developing their own web site, but hope that a directory listing then acts as a signpost to that resource.
microsyster also sees the existence of this site as a way of making an affirmative statement that the work of women's groups continues to exist and evolve in response to the changing needs of women in london.
microsyster will review with groups who are part of the directory, as well as with users, ways in which the site can be developed.
