Summer School 2003
Arts and Radio - A course for women

  • Dates:  21-25 July 2003, 10-4pm
  • Venue:  Riverside Studios, Crisp Road, Hammersmith, London W6

    This one week summer school will provide women with the basic skills necessary to develop their interest in radio production and presentation, focusing on the arts.  Based at Riverside Studios, participants will have the opportunity to interview and review artists and creative groups working at this West London arts centre.

    The course will culminate in a live internet broadcast, with an opportunity for all to participate in production and/or presentation of programming.

    Women's Radio Group has a long track record of providing successful training for the media industries, offering practical courses using broadcast quality equipment and achieving considerable success in ensuring that trainees move into work in radio.

  • The course:  The summer school is an intensive, practical course, suitable for all levels of experience.  Key components will include:

    • digital recording and editing
    • interviewing techniques
    • voiceovers
    • presentation and microphone techniques
    • writing for radio, working from scripts
    • the creative use of music/planning a music programme
    • arts reviewing

  • Cost:  £290 per person.  As this is a subsidised course, there are no concessions.  Number for the course will be limited to allow maximum hands-on experience for participants.  Early booking is recommended to avoid disappointment, as places will be allocated on a strictly first-come basis.
