White Ribbon Day - 25th November 2001 Say no to violence against women - wear a white ribbon. Blow the whistle on violence against women: domestic violence, female infanticide, war.
WOMANKIND Worldwide and the YWCA are marking White Ribbon Day (the International Day against Violence Against Women) with events around the UK, and all over the world people are participating in activities over the next few weeks: speaking out, wearing white ribbons, putting up posters, holding events.... London YWCA are taking a canal boat through the Camden locks blowing their whistles and breaking the silence around violence against women. At 12noon the women will arrive at Camden Lock in the heart of the market and make their presence heard with their whistles. Inside the market there will be a stall where passers by can get information. Food will be available from the Camden Information Café. Everyone is welcome to come along and join in. We need volunteers to help on the boat and run the stall. Please contact Louise Paine-Davey on 0207 383 0133 for more details. See YWCA website for other events around the country. Join WOMANKIND in Trafalgar Square on Sunday 25 November. Assemble at the National Gallery end of the square at 11.45am. At midday we will blow whistles for one minute to break the silence surrounding this issue. If you can't join us on the Sunday, blow a whistle somewhere else, or contact us for ribbons, posters and postcards - or send someone in your place! For other events in the UK go to WOMANKIND website. We've already distributed over 30,000 white ribbons - the symbol that people will not condone or remain silent about violence against women. Wherever you are at midday on 25 November 2001 - make some noise! |
